    Volunteer Descriptions

    Heal and Advocate

    1Helpline Advocate
    Provide emotional support, information and referrals, and safety planning to helpline callers, opening the door to critical services. Helpline advocates are often the first point of contact for people accessing our services. Completion of Womankind's helpline training and a minimum commitment of 4 hours/week for 6 months is required.
    2Residential Coverage Volunteers
    Play a critical role in in Womankind's residential operations and programming. Coverage duties include screening and greeting visitors, checking in with residents and providing resources as needed, ensuring the safety of the facility, and providing crisis management.
    3Accompaniment Volunteers
    Support survivors in overcoming barriers to service by providing emotional support, transportation assistance, and advocacy to legal, medical, and public assistance appointments.

    Be a Positive Role Model

    1Childcare Volunteers
    Provide a supportive environment for children living in Womankind'’s residences to allow parents to attend to critical appointments and participate in programming. Through supervision and mentorship, childcare volunteers learn specific therapeutic techniques for working with families who have experienced trauma. A 2 hours/week commitment for 3 months is required.
    2Drawing and Truth (DAT) Mentors
    Support youths’ healing by developing consistent, positive relationships and planning and implementing creative, strengths-based workshops. A commitment to attending the program on Saturdays for approximately 30 weeks from October – June is required
    3STAR Program Outreach Volunteers
    Support outreach for the STAR Children and Youth Program which provides counseling to youth who have experienced trauma and helps bridge the gap between parents and children that may stem from discord within the home. Other key responsibilities will include recruitment, presentations and workshops, and interpretation/translation.
    4Summer Field Trip Volunteers
    Summer field trip coordinators plan and coordinate weekly recreational activities for children and youth affected by trauma. Trips take place on weekdays in July and August. Summer field trip chaperones accompany children and youth on weekly field-trips. Trips take place on weekdays in July and August. A 4 hour/week commitment in July and August is required.

    Educate and Raise Awareness

    1Outreach Volunteers
    Increase public awareness about domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and services available to survivors. Activities may include tabling at community events, participating in campaigns, and creating educational materials.

    Plan and Execute Events

    1Special Events Volunteers
    Help plan, publicize, and execute a variety of Womankind events throughout the year, including fundraisers, awareness programs, conferences, and events for survivors of trauma.

    Promote Language Justice

    1Volunteer Interpreters
    Facilitate communication among violence survivors, community members, and service providers. Interpreters may choose from a variety of interpretation settings, including legal clinics, presentations, support groups, wellness programming, counseling sessions, and more.
    2Volunteer Translators
    Increase survivors’ access to critical services by translating legal documents, letters, and forms that are relevant to their cases. In addition, they increase awareness about violence and available services to individuals with limited English proficiency by translating outreach and educational materials.

    Provide Administrative Support

    1Volunteer Receptionists
    Greet and direct guests visiting Womankind’s headquarters and provide operations support. Volunteers in this role have the opportunity to gain insight into several aspects of nonprofit operations and to contribute to a variety of projects.
    2Administrative Volunteers
    Support Womankind’s programming by providing clerical and research support to programs.

    In addition to the opportunities listed above, volunteers are welcome to share their skills and expertise with Womankind. Past skills-based volunteer projects have included graphic design, videography, yoga class instruction, self-defense workshop instruction and more.
