Did you know that gender-based violence (GBV) is the leading cause of family homelessness in NYC, even before evictions? These two issues are intersectional--survivors of GBV often face housing insecurity, while many of those who are unhoused have reported experiencing GBV.

Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) is a tenant-based rental subsidy that fills a huge gap for survivors who could access housing without having to enter the shelter system. EHV has been a major part of Womankind’s housing work since 2021. Among 109 EHV applications that we submitted, more than 56 families successfully moved into safe housing or secured their previous apartment with the rental subsidy.

Now that Womankind's EHV program has come to an end, it’s time to reflect and celebrate! Please join us for a Housing Roundtable on March 26th at our Brooklyn Community Office. We will be presenting key findings from diligent 4-month research on EHV led by Katie Zhang, Womankind's Housing Specialist. Guest speakers will share their EHV experience, discuss housing programs in NYC, how to practice housing justice, and celebrate Womankind's success with securing housing for survivors and their families.
