Formerly known as the New York Asian Women’s Center, Womankind uses the multidimensionality of its Asian heritage to work alongside survivors of gender-based violence as they build a path to healing.

Womankind offers comprehensive services in 18+ Asian languages and dialects, including our 24/7 multilingual helpline, safe and confidential emergency residences (shelters), counseling, family and immigration legal services, economic empowerment workshops, wellness activities, creative arts therapy, youth programs, and so much more.

Womankind seeks a full-time Development Associate to join our Development & Communications Team, currently composed of a Chief Development Officer (CDO), an Associate Director of Development, an Institutional Grants Manager, a Communications Manager, and a to-be-hired Events Consultant. The Development team raises funds to support the entirety of Womankind’s programs, operations, and infrastructure; increases visibility for Womankind as a leader in the gender-based violence field; and develops external partnerships that support resource building for the organization’s long-term sustainability.

This position is non-exempt full-time: 40 hours per week hybrid divided between in-person (two days per week) and remote work with additional days in-person as needed for meetings and events.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Development Associate will be primarily responsible for managing development operations and supporting the Development Department across a variety of fundraising and communications functions. They will work closely with the Associate Director, Development, the Chief Development Officer, and Development & Communications team to implement Womankind’s fundraising plans and activities.

Development Operations

  • Overall management and administration of Womankind's fundraising database (CRM), includes fulfilling a lead role in our upcoming database migration and implementing current and new processes and systems for accurate tracking of fundraising efforts from multiple sources
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate donor data and donor prospect data
  • Manage gift processing from start-to-finish, including coding donations and importing donation data into the database
  • Ensure timely processing of gift acknowledgement letters
  • Perform data pulls from the database, analyze, and organize the data to produce accurate donation and donor fundraising reports throughout the year
  • Create and manage email, mailing, and donor constituent lists for fundraising campaigns and events as well as for broader external communications
  • Act as the primary Development team member in ongoing communications with the Finance team handling donation coding and fielding and responding to requests for donation supporting documents, and any questions on donations and pledges
  • Participate in streamlining inter-department donation tracking systems with the Finance team by actively participating in monthly donation reconciliation and supporting the annual audit
  • Manage specific external vendors, consultants, and partnerships related to the fundraising database, campaigns, and events, including submitting Requests for Expenses, and working with Finance to ensure timely payments

Individual Fundraising & Institutional Giving Support:

  • Perform prospect research for individual, corporate, and foundation funder
  • Support funder records management for diverse streams of funding both private and public, including various forms of corporate giving (e.g. matching gifts, corporate sponsorships and grants), foundations, and government grants and contracts
  • Manage in-kind donation processes as related to tracking the donations received and responding to requests for donor acknowledgement and highlighting partnerships on Womankind’s social media and/or website
  • Support the design and implementation of new development opportunities by working with the Development and Senior Leadership team to develop donor cultivation and stewardship plans

Social Media and Communications Support:

  • Support the Communications Manager with social media engagement as needed, including drafting content, posting, and tracking social media reach
  • Support the Development & Communications Team with writing awareness raising content, such as blog posts and e-newsletter articles

Champions for Womankind Monthly Donor Program:

  • Provide support and grow into managing the ongoing implementation and growth of Womankind’s Champions, a dedicated group of monthly donors, overseeing a growing portfolio of donors who give on a monthly basis and cumulatively up to $999.99 annually
  • This includes monthly donor tracking, monthly donor communication, updating credit card payment information, and creation and implementation of strategies for engagement, retention, and upgrades


  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable experience and at minimum 2 years of professional experience
  • Experience implementing and adapting development operations processes in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing and working in a database or CRM
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Commitment to data integrity, attention to detail, accountability, and sensitivity to preserving confidentiality of donors and funding information
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with a highly collaborative team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite and ability to learn how to use and navigate third-party fundraising platforms, such as Benevity, GiveSmart, etc.
  • Knowledge and/or enthusiasm to learn and engage in issues of gender-based violence, gender justice, Asian and Asian American communities
  • Available for evening events on occasion

Compensation Package:

Womankind offers a competitive and outstanding compensation package. Annual salary range for this position is between $50,000 and $55,000, based on the candidate’s experience, skill set, education, and other criteria.
