Womankind uses the multidimensionality of our Asian heritage to work alongside survivors of gender-based violence as they build a path to healing. Through our programs, we offer access to a safe place to live, counseling, legal assistance, wellness activities, and so much more. Womankind is an expert in serving Asian communities, yet our services are valuable and available to all. Whether in our services or in our increasing advocacy and policy work, Womankind first centers the survivor by uplifting them to control their own lives and narratives. In addition to promoting healing and safety through service provision, Womankind promotes gender justice through research, coalition building, policy analysis, and community education and mobilization.
Womankind Pathways to Healing (P2H) program is a holistic wellness program using various culturally based modalities to heal trauma, reconnect mind-body-spirit, and foster togetherness. As we know, healing modalities around trauma have traditionally existed as talking therapy. However, a common problem amongst Asian survivors of gender-based violence is somatization – the process in which repressed trauma leads to psychiatric conditions, and ultimately manifests in physical symptoms and illness. Therefore, alleviating the physical symptoms of trauma and providing survivors with a pathway to reconnect with their own body are crucial to strengthening wellbeing. Furthermore, being intentional about culturally specific modalities of healing, outside of or in conjunction with traditional talk counseling is how we can be holistic in addressing trauma. Within the P2H program, we seek to offer healing modalities that are culturally nuanced and trauma-informed; we aim to broaden concept of healing to incorporate multiple forms of mind-body-spirit interconnectedness activities; and we strive to build spaces for community healing.
As a part of the Client Services management team, the P2H Manager plays a key role in growing the program in alignment with community and sector needs and opportunities. This role’s effectiveness is tied into the close collaboration with other program and site managers within the organization, to ensure that programming is mission-aligned and compliance with funding requirements.
